What responsibilities will you have in this role?

 

Reporting to the Chair, School of ESL and Immigrant Education, the incumbent is accountable for identifying, scoping and securing educational partnership opportunities supporting immigrant education and developing and executing on engagement opportunities for the College with sector partners, community partners and institutional partners. The incumbent plays a critical role in the stewardship of relationships with both external partners and internal stakeholders within the academic department. The incumbent works in close collaboration with the CPLS management team as well as other College staff members to fulfil CPLS business objectives pertaining to immigrant programming and access. The incumbent scans the market for new partnership, grant or revenue-generating opportunities, proposing innovative programming and writing grant proposals and funding applications. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent is responsible for proactively seeking new opportunities and managing strong working relationships of all staff both within the college and externally with stakeholders in the sector.

  • Scopes, identifies, and secures partnership and funding opportunities across the immigrant sector, language training market and governmental agencies.
  • Scans the educational market for new corporate partnership and governmental grant opportunities through sector networking and participation.
  • Negotiates with key internal/external stakeholders, attends key meetings and information sessions to identify and present potential partnership and program opportunities.
  • Coordinates and completes the development of funding and grant proposals until submission.
  • Identifies and develops approaches to growing access to English language programming, pre-programming, academic pathways, or other training at the College through collaboration and strategic planning.
  • Implements strategies to grow immigrant education portfolio, analyzes and monitors portfolio growth and decline, and provides implement solutions to increase productivity.
  • Works with the CPLS Chair(s) to establish and promote innovative academic pathways, programming, or training focused on expanding immigrant education opportunities through cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Manages stakeholder relations by actively engaging other college departments, internal and external stakeholders, sector partners and associations to source, negotiate and develop new partnership proposals.
  • Develops and executes on engagement opportunities for the College with sector partners, community partners and institutional partners.
  • Directs processes and reporting related to project or program staffing management including: academic contracts, critical workload analysis, resource planning, enrollment planning, timetables/scheduling and other processes as required.
  • Develops and manages enrolment targets and budget recommendations for incoming educational projects and programming.
  • Works with the Manager, Divisional Finance and Operations (CPLS) to monitor and direct the budget activity for selected immigrant programs and projects and reports on project revenue and performance to the Chair, School of ESL and Immigrant Education.
  • Works closely with internal academic and non-academic stakeholder and technical teams to ensure capability and capacity fit for new partnerships.
  • Oversees partnership deliverables prepared by staff, ensuring outcomes are continuously met or modified as needed.
  • Ensures ongoing communication between all stakeholders at all partnership stages and developments; completes reporting requirements as needed.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and/or the International Centre to align strategic direction for program promotions.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

What qualifications do you need for this role?

 

  • Masters degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field of study (eg. Adult Education, Business, Public Relations).
  • Training or certification in business/stakeholder development in a postsecondary and/or corporate environment is preferable.
  • Training or certification in immigrant and/or international education is preferable.
  • Five (5) years progressive experience in project management and business development, with experience working in immigrant and/or international education, and an understanding of post-secondary sector and working in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that indicate the ability to lead teams and effectively problem solve, negotiate apply conflict resolution skills and project management techniques.
  • Experience coordinating several projects or programs and using oral and written communication skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, analyse and anticipate issues, effectively solve problems in a timely manner and exercise sound judgment with exposure to project-based work assignments.
  • Ability to synthesize market and sector trends in higher education, language training and immigrant and international education.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the proven ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to differentiate communication styles (verbally and written) for students (with limited English proficiency), stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of a complex, multi-stakeholder environment and sensitivity to issues of diversity of the population that George Brown College serves.
  • Excellent organization, planning, research, analytical and intuitive skills.
  • Service-focused leadership skills; change leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated discretion, tact, and ability to motivate changes in staff culture and performance.
  • Must be able to generate ideas for improvement in different areas, take initiative and follow through on improvements.
