Provides customer service, technical and administrative support for the Welcome and Advising Center. Has an understanding of SFCC programs, services and key personnel as well as determines needed services and ability to assist students, faculty and staff as well make appropriate referrals when needed. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 9 months experience in enrollment, customer service or comparable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community college experience
  • BANNER experience
  • Call Center experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Job Duties

Responsibility/Duty

  • Assists customers, in person or over the telephone, including students, faculty, and staff with admission and registration; provides general college information and assistance.
  • Uses individual judgement to assist the SFCC population and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves customer related concerns and issues; works with customers to assist and resolve problems as they occur. Refers to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Provides prospective and current students with initial information regarding specialized statuses such as International Students; this includes policies and procedures for application, enrollment, etc.
  • Ensures that students are prepared for effective advising sessions by providing pertinent information about admissions and testing; triages students appropriately
  • Anticipates prospective and current students’ needs in order to more effectively provide options and referrals, including vocabulary and definition of terms prior to referral.
  • Maintains effective relationships with key staff in academic and student support areas and communicates regularly with departments and faculty to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is provided to prospective and current students including pre-requisites, certificate and degree information and student support service referrals.
  • Trained in SFCC ERP to utilize Banner to register students, process student forms, access and retrieve student records, and other assigned tasks.
  • Participates in testing of Banner systems prior to registration periods; includes a collaborative team that crosses departments including Enrollment, Cashiers, Office of Information Technology, Registrar’s Office, etc.
  • Provides technical assistance to end-users in the utilization of the online enrollment system; provides other assistance as appropriate.
  • Processes and updates student information; complies with FERPA in ensuring confidentiality.
  • Stays current with specialized regulations including FERPA and NM Higher Education Department Residency policies in order to provide appropriate assistance to prospective and current students.
  • Maintains WAC department e-mail account; replies to inquiries and distributes appropriately.
  • Prepares a variety of correspondence, documents and reports; enters data into databases; maintains office files, electronic and paper.
  • Maintains and updates handbooks, forms, publications, and policy/procedure documents as directed by supervisor.
  • Provides information on tuition rates, fees, and payment deadlines as well as initial information on residency for tuition purposes requirements.
  • Processes and tracks department purchase documents; may communicate with vendors on purchases.
  • Verifies information and takes student and employee ID pictures.
  • Attends employee training sessions and keeps current with polices, rules and regulations related to duties.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
